Creating the Perfect Playroom

I am a sucker for a bright, beautiful playroom. They're so joyous to look at, it's almost impossible not to smile. When decorating a playroom it's important to keep in mind that the space needs to not only be pretty, but functional and able to grow along with the child.

Here are 5 steps to creating the perfect playroom for you and your kiddos!

A kid's playroom is the perfect opportunity to have fun with prints and patterns. Keep the walls mainly neutral and add pops of color in accents and texture with the fabrics, toys, bins, and art. Add the pattern to the ceiling to keep it fresh and fun!

Curate a fun mix of framed art created by your little one and simple prints. Instead of investing in pricey art, let your kid showcase their own works of art and blend them with a few fun finds. It will add a one-of-a-kind appeal to the room. And it can be easily added to and changed out as they keep creating.

Probably one of the most important aspects of designing a playroom is storage! Children have tons of stuff. Keep it simple with lots of baskets and bins- it will make clean up time faster. Fill in your built-in shelves or bookcase with wood, rattan or fabric bins. Take it a step further and categorize and label the storage bins.

You don't want to have to keep purchasing pieces that your children will eventually grow out of. Purchase durable furnishings, timeless lighting and a soft rug that will provide pattern and padding for your knees. Make sure any fabrics are washable! Choose all of these pieces with the mind set of what you want to use five years down the road.

Add fun accents and activity areas, like a fort/tent, dress up station, activity table or swings. Have fun with it!
